What is CICMUN?

CICMUN was started by the English teacher Maria Emília Macedo and a group of students in 2000 when they were deterred from participating in SAIMUN due to the foot and mouth disease outbreak in Ireland.

CICMUN is held, annually, at Colégio Internato dos Carvalhos (CIC), in Vila Nova de Gaia, and it is host to nearly 192 delegates of Portuguese High Schools and the American International School of Lisbon.

CICMUN is a two day student run event and therefore there are only three issues on the Agenda.

It is an extra-curriculum activity and it requires a wide range of skills to attend the conference successfully. It is your task to bring forth solutions to the world problems being debated on the conference.

When you attend CICMUN you will be part of a delegation representing one of the 250 countries and NGO's in the United Nations

It is your job to:

      Before the conference:

  • Study the structure and function of the United Nations

  • Research about the country your representing (politics, natural resources, culture, economy…)

  • Write a resolution on the committee chosen

  • Prepare an opening speech

      At the conference:

  • Lobby (talk informally to delegates representing other countries)

  • Gather support for your resolution

  • Deliever your 1 minute speech at the General Assembly

  • Accurately represent your country by speaking, sking question and voting.
